Here & Now – New Web Series By Ronalds Brothers Starring Judd Nelson – Preview And Exclusive Producton Images
First Report from www.areyouscreening.com
by MARC EASTMAN
You may know the Ronalds Brothers for their Undead Office Comedy Netherbeast Incorporated , which wasreleased with a limited theatrical and is now available on DVD.NetherBeast Incorporated stars Darrell Hammond (SNL), Dave Foley(Kids in the Hall), Jason Mewes ( Clerks 1 and 2), Judd Nelson, and Robert Wagner. You might also know them as co-writers on the second season of Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns.
In early October, the Ronalds brothers will be putting out a new web series starring Judd Nelson, and this one looks like a winner. In a sense similar to Lisa Kudrow’s Web Therapy, Here and Now looks to be the kind of show that is really going to push the boundaries of the web series as a vehicle. As things keep progressing, and we move nearer to the accepted legitimacy of the medium, it is efforts like this that will provide the rungs for the ladder.
I had a chance to check out the script, and I really liked what I saw. From overall concept, to the framing of each webisode, to the dialog, and more, the show looks to have solid potential. Web series are a trickier game than a lot of people might think, and working out the run of the show is deceptively complicated. You’ve got to hook people quick, and you can’t let up for a second. You’ve also got to convince them to tune in for the next installment, and it’s all a much different game than appealing to an audience on their couches. Even if someone is going to bail out on a regular show, they’re incredibly likely to give it a chance well beyond the entire runtime of a webshow.
For all that web series are not generally given the respect they deserve, they are a game of pop, quality, making every second count, and nailing everything… they can’t afford not to be, because man that mouse click is a tempting beast.
I think this one shows a mindset that really understands the medium, and with the people involved, they just might bring this one home in a big way. I highly recommend keeping your ears open for Here & Now, and checking it out come October. I will be, and I’m sure I’ll be posting more info and hopefully some previews as such becomes available.
A bit from the press release -
HERE & NOW is a whimsical web series with a comedic flare. The series stars Judd Nelsonwho plays a guy that looks like Judd Nelson, and even though he isn’t, on occasion, he uses “Judd’s” identity to woo the ladies. Playing opposite Nelson is Kevin Berman who plays David, a barbershop owner stuck in a rut and looking for a second lease on life. This is a sweet but wacky tale of what happens when an innocent birthday wish comes true. Guest Stars include Traci Lords (Zac and Miri Make a Porno, Cry Baby), Alexis Arquette (Pulp Fiction), Clare Grant(Black Snake Moan), Sera D’ Laine (Wild Things 3), Amie Barsky (Knuckle Draggers, Miss Nobody), Luke Eberl (Planet of the Apes). “The Wish” is the first episode of this series set to hit the Internet in early October.

THE GRAVES Announced as the FIRST film for AFTER DARK'S 8 Films to Die For
The first addition to After Dark Horrorfest 4 was announced today by After Dark Films’ CEO Courtney Solomon. The new title joining the "8 Films to Die For" lineup is The Graves, written and directed by Brian Pulido. Pulido, a well known comic book writer and creator of such titles as Lady Death and Evil Ernie, makes his feature directorial debut on the film. The films stars Clare Grant, Jillian Murray, Bill Moseley, Lamb of God singer D. Randall Blythe, and Tony Todd. Brian Ronalds and Dean Ronalds of Ronalds Brothers Productions and Francisca Pulido of Mischief Maker Studios produced. Adam Goldfine is the Director of Photography. Dana Lambert, VP of Acquisitions at After Dark Films brokered the deal with Ted Chalmers of Moving Pictures Film & TV who represented the filmmakers in the negotiations.
In The Graves two inseparable sisters, Megan and Abby Graves, are taking one last wild road trip before Megan has to start a new job. The journey includes a trip through remote Arizona in search of a kitschy roadside attraction. Instead, Megan and Abby happen on Skull City Mine, a weather-beaten, abandoned mine town converted into a self-guided tour. What seems like a fun day in the sun turns into a mind-bending fight for survival against menaces both human and supernatural.
“Brian’s background and knowledge of the horror world has served him incredibly well. He has directed a film that audiences are going to find both scary and immensely entertaining. The Graves is simply great edgy fun, and we’re excited to have it as part of our lineup,” stated After Dark Partner/CEO Courtney Solomon.
“Mischief Maker Studios and Ronalds Brothers Productions are pleased that their first foray together has produced a theatrical feature film,” says Mischief Maker Studios COO Francisca Pulido. “Brian Pulido continues to deliver the goods to horror fans. The Graves is a fun, date night horror flick.”
After Dark Horrorfest 4 runs for one week in theatres across the United States from January 29nd–February 5th, making it the largest nationwide film festival.

Ronalds Brothers Productions and Locked Horns Productions presents COWBOY DREAMS Red Carpet LA Premiere
BIG PICTURE SHOW Story: Tyler Perry Hires Indie Filmmakers The Ronalds Bros.
Among the filmmakers I've met who have cut their teeth in the Valley of the Sun areBrian and Dean Ronalds. They started out making short films, graduated to the featureNetherbeast Incorporated (now available on DVD), and recently wrapped up a horror movie they produced called The Graves, directed by Brian Pulido and starring Tony Toddand Bill Moseley.
The brothers just informed me that Tyler Perry has signed them up as writers for hisTBS sitcom, Meet the Browns, which has its season premiere on June 17th.“We had just started commuting back and forth from Gilbert [Arizona] to L.A. in January when we got the call from our manager,” Dean says. “After a few meetings with the executive producer and head writers for the show, the next thing we knew, we were on a plane to Atlanta.”And even though Netherbeast and The Graves aren't exactly in the Madea wheelhouse, Brian Ronalds says that because of Perry's independent status, there's still a lot to learn from the guy. “I know we’re nowhere near his level, but we were very inspired and our dream would be to create a sizeable studio in Arizona as Mr. Perry did in Atlanta.”Good for those guys. They've busted their asses for years, so I'm happy to see it pay off for them.Saturday, May 30, 2009
